About

The history of Sporting Focus goes back to the late 1970s when as a teacher in North West Queensland, I was asked to shoot images for the school magazine with a very limited understanding of photographic techniques.

As an avid sports fan and enthusiastic coach of a number of physical activities, my camera lens soon focused on the main interest in my life at that time... sport!

Experience has been my main teacher along with a few understanding and talented colleagues.

My interest in the still image has ebbed and flowed since those early beginnings but has never been extinguished.

Early in the 1990s, I purchased my first “serious” SLR, a Nikon F801 but relinquished my hold on tradition at the beginning of 2005 with the purchase of a digital SLR (another Nikon of course).

However ... as most photographers will testify, one camera is never enough!

In 2008, a Nikon D3 was purchased. Coupled with a 400mm f2.8 and a 200mm f2 lenses, respectible images of sporting events are now being recorded.

Despite the lack of formal training, I do consider that I can take a “good shot”. In recent times, I have been granted media accreditation with Athletics Australia enabling me to shoot at all the major domestic track meets in this country. In addition, I shoot a significant proportion of the images that are used in the weekly publication of “Inside Queensland Track and Field”.

Renee Cook is not only one of the leading Junior athletes in the country but also has a natural flair for photography. Samples of her work is also displayed in the Gallery from time to time.

Sporting Focus is the simplest way that I can meet the growing number of requests from the public to get access to my work.

The main focus of the site is sport but when time permits, other subjects are being added to the Gallery.

In fact, any still image is of interest as the magic of the camera is that it is able to preserve a moment in time forever.

Unless otherwise stated, all images that appear on Sporting Focus are for sale to individuals and commercial enterprises.

I sincerely hope that as you peruse the site, you enjoy the experience as I enjoyed capturing the images.
